Run Your Old Add-Ons in FireFox 3.5

Run Your Old Add-Ons in FireFox 3.5

FireFox 3.5 was released yesterday and with it's arrival came a large amount of updates. Many of the updates that were included were geared towards the advancement of new web standards. FireFox now supports many CSS3 and HTML5 features for the first time. If you have not downloaded 3.5 I would encourage you to do so. One thing you might notice after installing FF 3.5 is that some of your favorite add-ons are no longer compatible. Don't uninstall it just yet! I will show you a trick to get those rusty old add-ons up and running

Step 1

How to Run Your Old Add-Ons in FireFox 3.5 - Step 1

Open FireFox 3.5 and type about:config into the address bar and hit enter

Step 2

You are now presented with a warning screen that shows a bit of Mozzila's personality, I love it. This is just telling you to make sure you know what you are doing. Editing the wrong thing could cause serious problems with FireFox. Go ahead and click I'll be careful, I promise

Step 3

Your screen should now look like the above image. This is a list of all the FF preferences. Take special care not to modify on anything. With your mouse right click anywhere on this screen and you will be presented with a contextual menu like the one pictured below.

Choose New: Boolean in the contextual menu.

Step 4

Step 5

Once you click OK a new dialog box will appear like the one above asking if you boolean value should be true or false. Choose false and click OK.

Step 6

That's it! Now restart FireFox and your add-ons should be working like new.
